1. Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) – Clinical Depression

  • The most common form of depression in the UK.

  • Affects people of all ages, often linked to stress, genetics, or life events.

  • Symptoms include persistent low mood, lack of motivation, fatigue, appetite changes, and suicidal thoughts.

  • Treated with therapy (CBT), antidepressants (SSRIs), and lifestyle changes.

2. Persistent Depressive Disorder (Dysthymia)

  • Chronic, long-term depression lasting two years or more.

  • Less severe than MDD but can significantly affect daily life.

  • More common in middle-aged adults and older populations.

3. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

  • Affects a large portion of the UK population due to rising cost-of-living pressures and economic uncertainty.

  • Often resolves with time, therapy, and social support.
